We’re thrilled to announce that The British School of Barcelona (BSB) will open a new campus in Cabrera de Mar, in the Maresme region of Spain in September 2026. With this project, the international school strengthens its position as a leading educational model in Catalonia, where it already operates schools in Barcelona, Castelldefels and Sitges.

The new campus, named BSB Maresme, will open its doors in September 2026 for Early Years and Primary pupils (up to the age of 9) and will expand to include Secondary education in September 2027. Once fully completed, the campus will accommodate approximately 700 students aged between 3 and 18.

The new international school in Maresme not only responds to the growing demand for school places, but also reflects BSB’s commitment to bringing its international education model to more families.

Neil Tetley, Executive Principal of The British School of Barcelona: ‘This project represents a significant step forward for BSB, highlighting the strength and continuous growth of our community. BSB Maresme will build upon our well-established, proven approach to education which focuses on students having a positive experience and genuinely enjoying their learning, obtaining excellent academic outcomes, developing the qualities and attributes they will need to thrive in life and becoming global citizens’.

Covering an area of 16,500 square metres and offering sea views, the campus has been designed to blend harmoniously with its natural surroundings. Its facilities include classrooms tailored for innovative learning and specialised science laboratories to encourage experimentation, alongside dedicated spaces for art and music.

In terms of sport, the campus will feature an indoor gymnasium with retractable seating, adaptable for assemblies and concerts, as well as a 14,000-square-metre outdoor sports field with stands. In addition, there will be spacious dedicated play areas for younger pupils, as well as terraces and courtyards designed to support study and social interaction among older students.

The BSB Maresme project is set to become a benchmark for sustainability and environmental best practices. The facilities have been designed to maximise energy efficiency and minimise environmental impact. The construction prioritises the use of natural materials, with a particular emphasis on wood, known for its low carbon footprint. In addition, the campus will be equipped with a photovoltaic solar installation made up of 80 panels, generating renewable energy for the school’s own consumption.

With a history spanning more than 65 years, BSB is the only school in Catalonia accredited as ‘Outstanding in every Category’ by the British Government. Its more than 2,000 students, representing 75 nationalities, consistently achieve exceptional academic results—placing some among the top performers in Spain, Europe, and the world in certain subjects—and gaining entry to some of the most prestigious universities in Spain and abroad.
