ABOUT BRITISH SCHOOL OF BARCELONA, CASTELLDEFELS AND SITGES, BARCELONA, SPAIN
Since its foundation in 1958, The British School of Barcelona has been a leading independent school characterised by the pursuit of academic excellence and outstanding care for all children and young people.
We want to help educate and develop leaders: young, well-educated, enthusiastic, happy leaders of today, and wise, confident, well-informed, content leaders of tomorrow. To achieve this, we commit to a set of values and standards, which underpin everything we do in the school.
We are a dynamic, internationally-minded community of nearly 50 nationalities. While we follow the English National Curriculum as an educational establishment fully accredited by the British Government, we also fulfill the Spanish and Catalan Governments requirements so that students can achieve the Spanish ESO and Bachillerato qualifications. We are one of the few schools worldwide to offer A Levels in parallel with the International Baccalaureate alongside a core personal development programme.
Every year our students obtain excellent exam results which are well above national and international averages, and the vast majority successfully gain entry into their first-choice university in the UK, Spain and around the world. The BSB is ranked as one of the 20 best international schools in Spain. In March 2016, we were judged to be an outstanding school overall, one of the very best in Europe.
The school is divided into three distinct areas for Early Years, Primary and Secondary with its own age-appropriate learning, play and social spaces. There also some shared facilities across the school including a 376-seat Theatre, purpose-built science, art, music, medical and dining rooms, a study garden and indoor/outdoor sports areas, including an artificial turf pitch.
Castelldefels is an increasingly popular destination for expat families. Our campus lies within easy access to the centre of Barcelona, and is just a 10-minute drive from the airport.
Our campus in Sitges joined The British School of Barcelona in January 2016. Sitges is a vibrant, convivial town which welcomes families from around the world. Our campus can be reached easily from Barcelona, Tarragona or the Barcelona-El Prat Airport by public transportation.
“The consistency of good teaching over time is the reason why all students make outstanding progress.”
“Pupils learn outstandingly well at all stages of the school and make consistently high levels of progress.”
“(I)GCSE results at the end of Key Stage 4 are excellent.”

Having gained a B.Ed (Hons) in Business from the University of Bangor, Amanda went on to teach in Kent, leading the introduction of group of qualifications. From there she moved to an international school in the south of Spain where she was Head of Sixth Form and exams officer, and thereafter she was appointed as the Head of Business and Enterprise at selective grammar school in Devon.
Amanda returned to Spain and joined The British School of Barcelona (BSB) as the Head of Secondary School and Sixth Form in 2007, where she successfully led that department through the first BSO inspection in the world, and a successful HMC accreditation. Since joining the BSB, she has also become a lead inspector for the NABSS inspectorate of British schools in Spain, and gained her M.Ed in Educational Leadership. In June 2017 Amanda took up the Headship role of The British School of Barcelona, which includes the Castelldefels and Sitges campuses, as well as the International Pre-University Centre, which is currently under construction.
