About

Hastings School is an independent British school based in Madrid which offers education to students aged 3-18 years, covering Early Years through to IGCSE and A Levels. The school is based on five campuses.

Azulinas campus houses our Primary students from Year 5 to Year 6, and contains several specialist areas: food and technology classroom, IT classroom, multi-purpose space (indoor fitness, assemblies, drama) and a library.

Physical education lessons are offered in a rented sports facility, which is 200m away from the school gates.

The teachers are UK qualified and experienced, plus, we have Spanish qualified staff who offer the obligatory Spanish language and humanities courses to our students up to Year 6. Our Year 7 to Year 13 groups are in our campus in Lorenzo Solano Tendero.

Hastings is authorised by the Spanish Ministry of Education and is a member of the National Association for British Schools in Spain (NABSS).

Ian Piper

Headteacher

Ian Piper started as Principal at Hastings School in September 2024 having previously been Headmaster from The British International School of Washington, which he has led since 2016 and was previously Head of Danube International School Vienna for seven years, having held further leadership roles in both Paris and Zurich. All these schools catered for students from pre-Nursery until Year 13 and were high performing schools, both academically and in terms of extracurricular activities. Mr. Piper’s most recent formal education was the completion of a MSc in Management Sciences from Southampton University and a MEd in Educational Management from Bath University.

Mr. Piper is enthusiastic about the opportunity to connect with and contribute to the Hastings community and learning about the Spanish language and culture.
