Inclusivity of UK schools recognised with national award
Congratulations to St Mary’s Preparatory School and Akeley Wood Junior School, who have been recognised by charity Stonewall for their work in creating an atmosphere of tolerance and respect in their school.
The Stonewall School Champion Award allows schools based in England to benchmark their progress and give direction to their ongoing work in celebrating diversity and tackling homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying.
“We’re enormously proud to receive the Stonewall School Champion Bronze Award”, said Rob Harmer, Headmaster at St Mary’s Preparatory School. “Respect for all is one of our key values. We are committed to tackling and preventing bullying of any sort, encouraging an atmosphere of acceptance amongst all our students.”
Recent changes in the school have included the introduction of gender-neutral locker rooms and toilets, a more inclusive uniform choice, an expansion of the books available in the school library to show different types of families and updating the anti-bullying policy, including a student-friendly version.
