We are proud to announce that Cognita has once again been shortlisted as a finalist in the ESG & Impact category at the EducationInvestor Awards – marking our second consecutive year of recognition.

The awards celebrate organisations across the education sector that are delivering meaningful progress in areas such as sustainability, social responsibility and innovation. Being recognised again reflects the continued commitment of our global community to embedding ESG across our schools and beyond.

A year of continued progress

In 2025, Cognita further strengthened our groupwide approach to ESG, aligning education, operations and partnerships to deliver measurable impact. This is reflected in the fact that 89% of our schools report that sustainability engagement is important to families.

During the year, Cognita was also recognised as an ESG Leader by Sustainalytics, highlighting the strength of our governance and the progress we are making toward a more sustainable future.

Extending our impact

A key milestone in 2025 was the launch of Cognita Impact – our global framework for education partnerships, designed to extend the reach of our work beyond our own schools.

Through this approach, we are focused on delivering long-term, education-led partnerships that support communities, strengthen teaching, and improve outcomes for learners worldwide. Our ambition is clear: for every child we educate, we aim to positively impact another life beyond our schools.

Across our system, this approach is already delivering tangible outcomes. For example, our partnership with The Sparkle Foundation in Malawi has helped strengthen early years teaching and improve student progression, while in Chile, collaboration with local public schools is expanding access to bilingual education and increasing classroom learning time.

Nurturing responsible learners

Sustainability and social responsibility remain embedded in the student experience across Cognita. With the majority of our schools supporting active student leadership, learners continue to play a central role in driving environmental and social initiatives in their communities.

Students across our global network took part in initiatives such as CNN International’s Call to Earth Day, the Cognita Student Challenge, and Global Be Well Day – engaging in projects ranging from biodiversity and food waste reduction to mental wellbeing and community connection.

This is reflected in action at school level. At the British School of Barcelona, students and staff reduced energy consumption by over 33,000 kWh in a single year, cutting carbon emissions while improving energy efficiency across campuses. Meanwhile, at CHIREC International School in India, a student-led energy campaign achieved an 11% reduction in electricity use, with sustainability actions extending beyond the classroom into students’ homes.

Looking ahead

Being named a finalist for a second year is a testament to the collective efforts of colleagues, students and partners across our global network.

Jayne Pinchbeck, Group General Counsel, commented:

“Being recognised again as a finalist for the EducationInvestor Awards in the ESG & Impact category is a fantastic achievement for our global community. It reflects the commitment across our schools to embedding sustainability into everyday practice. At Cognita, we believe education plays a vital role in shaping a more sustainable future. Our focus remains on delivering meaningful impact – for our students, our communities, and the wider world.”

We look forward to building on this progress and sharing more in the year ahead.
