About
Liceo Sorolla International School, founded in 1963 by three families who continue to lead the school today, offers a distinctive and future-focused educational experience. Our model combines active learning methodologies with a robust language programme in English, Spanish and French. We are home to more than 1,300 students aged 2 to 18, representing 25 nationalities.
As an IB World School since 2016, we deliver the International Baccalaureate® Diploma Programme and belong to a global network of over 4,000 international schools. We currently have two IB Diploma groups, and this year we welcomed our fourth cohort. Since the beginning, our students have achieved a 100% pass rate. In 2020/21, the average score was 34.41 out of 45, equivalent to 8.48 out of 10 in the Spanish National Baccalaureate (UNED). Our teachers engage in continuous professional development to maintain the highest standards required for IB teaching, and we regularly receive visits from schools preparing to join the IB community.
Our mission is to develop confident, active global citizens—young people who understand their world, respect cultural differences and contribute to a more equal, just and sustainable future.
We offer a trilingual education in English and French and cultivate an authentically international environment. Our students come from over 25 countries, including the United States, Mexico, the United Kingdom, the Czech Republic, China, Greece, Argentina, Italy, Belgium, Germany, Iran, France, Bulgaria, Ireland, Serbia, Israel, Portugal, Venezuela, Colombia, Brazil, Chile, Scotland, Lithuania and Sweden.International experiences play a key role in our approach. Each year, around 150 students take part in academic stays abroad in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland and France, while we host approximately 50 students from international schools worldwide. Our languages department - our largest - comprises 28 teachers, including 19 native speakers, supported by bilingual Spanish teachers with international teaching experience. We also carry out annual research visits to leading schools worldwide to continue improving our practice.
We are committed to academic excellence and student wellbeing. Through our proactive tutorial system and the Personal Improvement Plan, every student—from Primary to Baccalaureate—sets personal and academic goals, reflects on their progress and builds the self-confidence needed to thrive. Over the past 15 years, we have consistently ranked among the top 30 schools in the EvAU state exams and have achieved strong results in the IB Diploma.
Our Learning 10.0 model places students at the centre of their learning. By combining cooperative learning, project-based learning and thematic classrooms, we create dynamic environments where curiosity, collaboration and critical thinking flourish. Supported by a hybrid digital ecosystem, our students develop computational thinking from an early age and use iPads and laptops to learn with confidence, independence and purpose—both in and beyond the classroom.
