Sir Chris Woodhead: 1946-2015
It is with sadness but much admiration that the Cognita community remembers Sir Chris Woodhead.
Sir Chris was an incredibly bright, passionate and engaging man. He was an academic of immense stature. He was the founder of Cognita back in 2004 and for 10 years guided and supported the Group’s development as Chairman, before retiring and taking on the Chairman’s role at our Southbank International School in central London.
Prior to Cognita, Sir Chris was instrumental in shaping education reform in the UK, leading Ofsted from 1994 to 2000 and developing a lasting inspection framework focused on high standards. He founded the University of Buckingham’s School of Education and in 2011 he was knighted for his services to education.
Many of us who had the opportunity to work with Sir Chris remember with admiration his dedication and commitment to education, to the vocation and craft of teaching. He was at all times determined and passionate in his work, all the more inspiring given the challenges he faced following his diagnosis with Motor Neurone Disease.
We are honoured to have been his colleague and our thoughts are now with his devoted wife Christine and his family.
