Cognita are pleased to announce the appointment of Mr John Hewitt as Sackville’s new Headmaster from September 2014.

Mr Hewitt has held positions of responsibility in a variety of UK state and independent schools, most recently as Headmaster at Bredon School, Tewkesbury and prior to that as Deputy Head at Churcher’s College, Petersfield. He is very familiar with the local area having taught at Sevenoaks School, eight years of which were as a Boarding Housemaster.  Mr Hewitt is currently taking a short sojourn from school leadership to manage a team charged with implementing the Government’s initiative to develop and deliver A Level reform with the Assessment and Qualifications Alliance (AQA) Examination Board.

Mr Hewitt has a track record of achieving academic excellence with the pupils in his care, with the Bredon School achieving an ‘excellent’ Independent Schools Inspectorate inspection under his tenure and added value in academic performance at GCSE. He has a strong interest in nurturing each child to develop their full potential, so that they are academically and socially prepared for the future, but also enjoy their schooldays.

Mr Hewitt is a former Irish rugby international, Barbarian and captain for London Irish although he is now relegated to the role of spectator, watching his two sons and daughter play in a wide variety of sports.

Commenting on his new role, Mr Hewitt said: “I am really looking forward to joining Sackville School and to the task of building on the strengths of the school in the coming years.  I will work closely with the pupils, staff and parents to maintain its happy, caring atmosphere and community spirit.”
