English Premiership champions host rugby festival for UK schools
UK Cognita schools travelled across the country to compete in a rugby festival on Monday 29th September 2014, hosted by reigning English Premiership champions, Northampton Saints.
The seven schools played at the Saints home stadium, Franklin’s Gardens. Teams were entered into Under 9 Tag Rugby and Under 11 Contact competitions from the following schools: Akeley Wood from Buckingham, Downsend School from Leatherhead in Surrey, Duncombe School from Hertford, Oakfields School from Upminster in Essex, Quinton House School from Northampton, St Clare’s School from Wales and Meoncross School from Fareham in Hampshire.
In a closely fought final, Downsend School were the winners of the Under 11 competition, scoring 5-0 against Akeley Wood School. Both sides were physically well trained and showed passion for their rugby. Winners of the Under 9 competition were Quinton House School, who beat Akeley Wood 18-16.
The organiser of the event and Director of Sport at Quinton House School, Mr Tom Muskin, said: “It is evident that schools in the Cognita group are focused on driving up standards in rugby union. As a result the games better and better.”
All children received a goody bag at the end from the Northampton Saints and were photographed with the Premiership and Amlin Challenge Cup trophies.
