Colchester celebrate another year of excellent GCSE results
Staff and pupils at Colchester High School are celebrating after another year of excellent GCSE results.
96% of the pupils gained 5 or more A* to C grades, with 90% of them including Maths and English.
The results were particularly strong in the core subjects, with almost half of the pupils gaining A* or A grades in Maths. Overall, 41% of the grades were A* or A – the highest in the school’s history.
The Principal, David Young said, “I am so proud of these exceptional results. This is such wonderful news overall and also comprises a number of outstanding individual successes. It is gratifying that the effort and determination of our pupils have been rewarded. I would like to thank all of the staff for their hard work, and for going the extra mile to make this possible. These are amongst the best results Colchester High School has ever achieved, and there is much to celebrate!”
Among the successes were outgoing Head Girl Elle Scott, who achieved 5A* and 5A grades, and James Maclachlan, who achieved 4A* and 5A grades amongst his passes.
Mr Young added, “The results are a vindication of the improvements seen in the school over the last few years. There is a real focus on teaching and learning here, with small class sizes and an intrinsic drive amongst pupils and staff to succeed. It shows that all pupils can achieve academic success if they are taught well, given plenty of pastoral support and have the right environment.”
As well as the results being particularly strong in Maths and English, they were also very impressive across the rest of the curriculum. “I am so pleased for all of our pupils – we will miss our Year 11’s but look forward to hearing about their future successes.”
