Akeley Wood Art, Textiles, Photography, Design and Technology Exhibition 2013

Written by: Mrs Davison

During the Easter Holidays, the Art department at Akeley Wood Schoolorganised two extracurricular days for GCSE and A-level students to complete coursework, prepare for the forthcoming examinations and provide an opportunity to enhance their portfolios.  The activity was very well attended and the participants were able to complete paintings, practise printmaking and experience processes which gave breadth to their practical work.

On Thursday 27th June the Summer Exhibition opened and was a resounding success with a fantastic range of materials and processes on view in Art, Textiles, Photography, and Design Technology.  It was wonderful to see a good number of parents admiring the handiwork of their children in what was, as always, a very convivial atmosphere.  This is an annual display which affords us the chance to celebrate the creative subjects at Akeley Wood School.

It was fantastic also to talk to some former students who still have fond memories of the School:  Alice Krayeva who is at St Mary’s London doing an English modular course which enables her to continue with her love of painting on an exchange visit to Boston, USA next year; Emma Farquharson, who has just completed an Art Foundation course at the University of Northampton and will now take a gap year before doing a BA Honours in Illustration; and, finally, Helen Sayer, who gained a distinction for her Foundation course last year and has just completed the first year of a Fine Art Honours degree in painting at Loughborough University.
